rebuilding indigenous communities one dollar at a time
Our Relationship with the Boruca Community
During our six months in Costa Rica, we built a meaningful relationship with the Boruca people, an Indigenous community known for their cultural preservation and connection to the land. Through ceremonies, conversations, and shared meals, we developed a personal relationship with Ana Iris, a respected leader within the tribe. These experiences deepened our understanding of the responsibility that comes with working with sacred materials and strengthened our commitment to honoring the communities who safeguard these traditions.
Rebuilding Their Sacred Ceremony Space
During one of our visits, we saw that the community’s maloca, their sacred ceremonial structure, was deteriorating and in urgent need of restoration. The Boruca had been gradually raising funds, but progress was limited by available resources. To support this effort in a direct and transparent way, we currently donate one dollar from every order to Ana Iris and the Boruca community to help rebuild the maloca, a space essential for ceremony, teaching, and cultural gathering.
Supporting Long Term Community Initiatives
The Boruca community has several long-term projects aimed at strengthening cultural continuity and expanding educational opportunities, including building a community kitchen, creating visitor cabinas, and eventually establishing a school grounded in ancestral knowledge. Our hope is to grow our impact over time, eventually funding all of their projects and contributing to future land back efforts. Each purchase through Naked Earth helps advance these initiatives and reinforces our commitment to ethical sourcing and meaningful Indigenous partnership.
